Laguiole is a small village in the south of France which has become famous throughout the world for the quality of its cutlery. Laguiole knives are thought to have their origins in a mix of cultural interaction between the French of Savoie and the Spanish where the local men of Savoi working in Spain would bring back a knife thought to be the Navaja, a knife of Arabo-Hispanic origin.
In 1829, with this influence, the first Laguiole knife was made and a Bee was inlayed on the handle. To this day each Laguiole can be easily recognised by the same Bee, inlayed on the handle of each Laguiole knife.
